Cornell International Christian Fellowship
CICF is a student led fellowship started in 1994 as an outgrowth of the Graduate Student Fellowship. It provides Christian International students opportunities for spiritual growth and Christian fellowship and service while they are at Cornell. It also welcomes non-Christian internationals, providing a warm environment for them investigate Christianity and to make Christian friends. Some American Christian students and volunteers with an interest in internationals also participate. Edith Johnson works with the fellowship as an advisor and we are also partnering with CICF as well. The weekly fellowship meeting is Friday evening at 6:30pm at Bethel Grove Ministry Center (1763 Slaterville Road, Ithaca). The format is a meal, then worship, then Bible studies. CICF continues to meet during the summer and winter breaks. For more information, see the CICF website, http://cicfcornell.blogspot.com/ Transportation is provided from campus: 6:15pm at Bradfield and 6:20pm from Big Red Barn (parking lot between Big Red Barn and Bailey Hall) or at other locations upon request. CICF will have a table at the Grad Student Fair on August 19. Welcome Picnic is Sunday August 20th 4-8pm at Taughannock State Park. First fall Friday meeting is August 25th with a welcome presentation by Edith Johnson (plus dinner & worship). Fall Bible studies start September 1st..
Friendship Partners and Conversational Partners
The Friendship Partner program matches American families (or individuals) with international students or scholars.. The student does not live with the family, but the family is expected to do something with the student about once a month. This allows the student to have a family away from home, as well as to practice speaking English and to learn American culture. Occasionally ISI plans group events that all families and students in the program are invited to attend.
The Conversational partner program matches Americans (usually Cornell students) with international students or scholars. A conversational partner meets with the student once a week (or twice a month, depends on what works for both of you) on or near campus to give the international student the opportunity to speak English with a native speaker.
If you are an international student and you want to sign up to have a friendship partner or conversational partner, please email David Larson at [email protected]. Give your name, sex, country of origin, local address, email address, phone number, school attending, major. level (undergrad, graduate, scholar, etc.), and religious background (if any). Also include any dietary restrictions or special interests that you would like your family to know about, and let us know if you have a car or not. Also, if you have a spouse or children with you that will be participating, give us their names and also the ages and gender of the children. Indicate whether you are requesting a friendship partner, conversational partner, or both.
If you are an American and want to participate as a friendship partner or conversational partner, also send an email to David at [email protected] and give your name, address, email, phone, church attending, and number in the family.
